What To Expect

For our next workshop of 2018, we will be hosting our first ever all women's workshop! Join me as we explore some of the most picturesque spots that Central Oregon has to offer. This workshop will be the perfect opportunity for women who have a passion for adventure to come together and have the experience of a lifetime with each other. With formidable mountain peaks, lush greenery as far as the eye can see, and an abundance of stunning waterfalls, Oregon is a natural playground for photographers. This trip will be an experience like no other trip we've hosted before. Our time in Oregon will be action-packed as we find some of the best views of the iconic Mount Hood and the Cascades, hike in Smith Rock, find hidden swimming holes and hot springs, and so much more. During this tour, we will be focusing primarily on landscape adventure photography. There will be one on one photo instruction both in the field and at the house, multiple editing sessions, and general mentorship about anything you might be interested in.

I'm very excited to announce that my cohost for this trip will be talented San Francisco landscape photographer Lisa Bao. I couldn't be more excited to have Lisa joining me for this very special trip. She and I have always been kindred spirits. Like me, she has a full time job but she always manages to make time to get outside and do what she loves. During the trip, we'll talk a lot about how Lisa and I manage to balance our full time jobs while still traveling and pursuing our passions. It's always inspiring for me to meet like-minded women like her. I have no doubt that I'll be leaving this trip with great friends and memories to last a lifetime. It's also extremely important for women to learn outdoor skills and be comfortable creating a safe and fun environment for their outdoor adventures and this weekend we will be doing just that!

As always, this trip is not just for photographers. If you want to meet like-minded women, challenge yourself, and push your boundaries, this is the perfect trip for you! We will be staying in a roomy home in Bend, Oregon which will serve as the perfect home base for our weekend of adventure. If you know me, you know that food is an essential part of all of my adventures so we will be going to all the best spots to eat in the area. Central Oregon is also known for its lively brewery culture. There will be an opportunity to use the newest Sony cameras and lenses for the duration of the trip. There are only 8 spots available for this trip. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns!

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my flights for?

We will plan on meeting at Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM) at around 6pm on Thursday, August 16th in order to pick everyone up. There's a flight from LAX to RDM that departs at 4:00pm and arrives at 6:13pm so that would be ideal if you will be departing from Los Angeles. If you're flying from somewhere else, the ideal arrival time is around 6pm since the group will be waiting at the airport until the last person arrives. You're also welcome to drive and meet us at the airport or the house if you're coming from nearby. Another option is to fly into Portland if that would be easier for you. For your departure on August 20th, the ideal flight time is around 7pm as that is the most affordable option at this point in time. You're welcome to depart earlier than that if necessary but you may need to arrange your own transportation back to the airport if it's significantly earlier than when the group will be heading to the airport. Prices range from $250-$350 at this time so look for something in that range! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the best flights to book!

How physically fit do I need to be? Do I need to be an experienced hiker?

The hikes that we will be doing in Oregon will range from very easy to moderate difficulty so some hiking experience will be helpful. Some hikes will cover moderate distances and will require some elevation gain so modest physical fitness is recommended. However, we will definitely be taking our time on the hikes so don’t worry if you consider yourself a slow hiker! Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns!

Is there a minimum age required to attend the workshop? What's the average age of participants at your workshops?

You must be at least 21 years old to attend this workshop. The average age of participants at our workshops is roughly 21 to 35 but we welcome people of all ages 21 and over!

Do I need a DSLR camera to attend this workshop?

No! First and foremost, this workshop is about going on an adventure with a group of like-minded women and soaking in the natural beauty of Oregon. If that sounds appealing, then we’d love for you to join us! Along the way, we will be taking many photos so having a camera is definitely a plus, but this can be anything from your smartphone to a top of the line DSLR. There will also be opportunities to demo Sony camera gear for use during the trip!

What will the accommodations be like?

We will be renting a large home for our weekend in Oregon. Everyone will get their own bed and there will be plenty of room to spread out. We will be holding our evening talks at the house and will be cooking some dinners at the house. The house will have free wifi and some extra parking for anyone who will be driving themselves.

What if there's bad weather?

There’s always a chance that the weather may not cooperate during our visit. In the event of rain or trail closures, there are plenty of backup options for beautiful places to explore and photograph.

What are the transportation details?

We will be chartering a passenger van for transportation during the weekend. All you have to do is get yourself to RDM airport or the house on August 16th and we’ll take care of the rest! We will be driving as a group in our van to all hikes and activities.

Can I come earlier or stay later?

You are more than welcome to arrive earlier or extend the end of the trip at your own expense. As long as you are present at the airport at the meeting time on August 16th, anything is fine! However, in the event of an early departure, you will need to arrange your own transportation to the airport.
